Tarbells Building History
Cumberland, BC, Canada

Tarbells is one of only four commercial structures from the 1890's to survive in Cumberland. Fortunately, this building was missed by all the disasters that haunted this block, including an explosion in 1908 and four major fires in 1909, 1922,1932 & 1979.

Constructed in 1895 and rented to three tenenants; Charles Tarbell - Hardware, Unnamed Italian - Fruitstand, David Anthony - Tobacco & Confectionery.

Purchased in 1902 by Charles Tarbell who expanded his hardware store which stayed in family hands until 1967. Subsequent owners ran it under various names until 2002 when it was purchased and restored. It now houses the Riding Fool Hostel, Dodge City Cycles and Tarbells Cafe.
